Mentorship

Amra mentors a small number of massage therapists, one to one. It is not a course, and there is no certificate at the end. It is unhurried time with a therapist who practises privately, spent on the questions that training leaves open.

Who it is for

Qualified therapists who want to work with more care and less hurry. Those at the start of a practice, and those some years in who feel they have stopped learning. Anyone thinking of leaving a spa or clinic to work privately, and unsure how to begin.

What it covers

Hands-on technique

Pressure, rhythm and the use of your own weight, so that you can work deeply without wearing yourself out. Reading a client through your hands as much as through their words.

Pacing a session

Giving a treatment a beginning, a middle and an end. Where to slow down, where to stay longer, and how to finish so that it feels complete rather than stopped.

Building a private practice

Positioning, pricing and the diary. How to attract the clients you want to work with, and how to decline, kindly, the rest. Discretion as a professional standard rather than an afterthought.

Boundaries and self-care

Protecting your hands, your back and your time. Setting limits with clients, and keeping them. Sustaining a practice for years rather than seasons.

Format

Mentoring is arranged around the therapist, not a syllabus. Three formats are proposed:

  • A single session, in person, for a specific question or an honest review of your work.
  • A series of sessions over several months, for those building or changing a practice.
  • Ongoing support by arrangement, for therapists who want someone to think alongside.
Formats, session length, in person or online, and fees are discussed when you enquire.

How to apply

Write to Amra with a few lines about yourself: where you trained, how long you have practised, where you work now and what you would like to change. Every application is read and answered by Amra personally. Places are few, and offered where there is a good fit on both sides.

Apply for mentorship

If you want to work with more care, and to build something of your own, Amra would like to hear from you.
